Sh*t I bought on Facebook: Ursa Major and Glossier

Next in my miniseries of products found and purchased from Facebook ads are a couple of travel friendly skincare/cosmetic lines.

I have been very receptive to skincare ads since my skin recently performed a 180 on me. Changing from Nuva Ring to Skyla for birth control meant a hormonal change, and more importantly, a complete shift from dry to oily skin. According to Dr. Google, I’m not the only one experiencing oilier skin with Skyla. As a 10-year Dermalogica faithful, I started regularly getting pimples and decided it was time for a change. I tried Rodan+Fields with some success, but my skin continued to revert back to adolescence. Not to mention Rodan+Fields is quite expensive and not at all TSA air travel friendly.

ursa-major

Ursa Major has this lovely trial kit for $20, which I reorder and store in my carry-on luggage. I now have the full size versions for home use. 2 months, 8 cities and 32 hotel nights later, I’m hooked on this easy skincare regimen. The bottles and tubes in the trial kit are perfect for travel and the kit comes with single-use face wipe packets to throw in your purse. Face Tonic, better known as toner, comes in a spray and eliminates the need for cotton balls. Best of all, the stuff smells great and my skin texture and appearance has improved!

I posted a couple Twitter videos of the wash, spritz and balm regimen here and here.

My only complaint is with the full-size Face Tonic spray. Compared to the light misting you get with the travel size, the full size spray nozzle is way too powerful and shoots too much tonic in your face. I’ll probably just refill the travel size I have for a nicer spritzing experience.

glossier

On the cosmetic side, I gave Glossier a whirl. Facebook ads showed this easy-to-apply lipstick with  a “popsicle-stain flush,” as they call it. Generation G by Glossier does just as advertised, giving nice color to lips with the ease of lip balm. Most applications I don’t even use a mirror, making it perfect for applying in the car on the way to work!

Only drawback is the cheap applicator. The lipstick part almost falls out of the tube after rattling around in my purse a few days. But given the reasonable price ($18) and balmy feel of the lipstick, I’m willing to overlook that.

I purchased shades Jam and Like. Jam is great for a more dramatic, darker lip while Like adds a very natural and pinkish tint.

Check out my Jam application video here. In this video I’m also wearing the Stretch Concealer under my eyes, but don’t judge too harshly. I am jet lagged and tired in this video, as this is my eighth city in two months. Overall, I’m happy with both Ursa Major and Glossier purchases and will continue to use both product lines.
